Spring is coming.
I made this dress in March and was wearing it throughout the summer. It is very flattering and is perfect for weddings and baby showers. Here is a link to the pattern I used. My version was all about a flower print and the whole project was inspired by the Duchess of Cambridge.
Fabric – 1.5 m (width – 150 cm) of synthetic, rather heavy but softly draping fabric.
The top of the dress is corset like and the key is to use very stiff interfacing
After the top was done, I tried old and true ‘rectangle clinched at the waist’ kind of skirt but it did not work well. I had a lot of fabric and after stitching it to the top, it did not look good… I left this project for several weeks, and then June issue of Burda Style came out and the skirt for a halter dress was perfect!
The final result.

Blue culottes inspired by Gigi Hadid’s outfit
Last year we witnessed the rise of culottes (knee-length pants, resembling a skirt). I was intrigued by the trend but not completely sold. I thought that this cut is not flattering and looks good only on tall girls. One day, I was reading a fashion magazine and came across a picture of Gigi Hadid wearing wide, blue culottes.
I immediately had a fashion crush, and had to google all the images of these pants… and then I just had to make them! I think that one of the best thing with sewing is that the outfits you make are so inexpensive that there is no excuse for you not to try new and unusual things. Just because you can 🙂 So I got a fabric and finished my version in one evening. And it worked out. It actually did not make my legs look shorter. It was an unusual (for me) cut and it took me some time to get use to it but the final verdict was – very elegant.
Material: 1 m (widths 160 cm) of lightweight fabric
Pattern from the 3/2015 issue.
Modifications: took about 15 cm off.
The sewing of this model is easy. If you know how to sew zipper in, you would be totally fine.
I still do wear them quite often. Similar patterns from recent magazines would be 108 7/2016 and 106 4/2016.
